Defunct currency notes recovered in torn condition in Bankura

Defunct currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 was today recovered in a torn condition in Bankura town, police said.

Bankura Additional Superintendent of Police Debarshi Dutta said that the torn notes were estimated at a face value of Rs 18,000 whereas unofficial sources claimed it at a face value of Rs 50,000.

The notes in torn state were recovered from the municipality drain near Subhas Road, Dutta said.

Old currency of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denominations have been banned post demonetisation move by the Centre which also made possession of such notes a punishable offence.
