Dharmapuri mishap: TN govt announces solatium

Tamil Nadu government today announced a solatium of Rs three lakh to the next of kin of nine persons who died when a government bus fell into a gorge in Dharmapuri district.

In a statement, Chief Minister O Panneerselvam expressed grief over the deaths and said best medical treatment has been ordered to be given to those injured in the acccident.

He also announced a solatium of Rs 50,000 for the severely injured and Rs 25,000 who sustained minor injuries.

State Transport Minister V Senthil Balaji and Higher Education Minister P Palaniappan are supervising the medical treatment given to those injured.
 

While seven persons died on the spot and 44 persons were injured when a bus went out of control and fell into a gorge yesterday, another two persons succumbed to injuries later in the day at the hospital, police said.

The mishap occured when the bus attempted to take a sharp turn near a temple and fell into the gorge, they said.
