The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) today achieved the first tunnel breakthrough of the Vinobapuri Metro station under phase III construction, completing tunneling work of downline stretch from Lajpat Nagar to Vinobapuri.
The breakthrough was achieved in the presence of DMRC Managing Director Mangu Singh and other Directors.
The Tunnel Boring Machine was lowered at the Lajpat Nagar shaft on May 13, 2014 and it emerged today at the Vinobapuri retrieval shaft after completing a tunneling of 833-meter stretch between Lajpat Nagar and Vinobapuri metro stations.

"The breakthrough for the up-line underground stretch is also expected very soon as the other TBM has also completed more than 60 per cent tunneling work," a DMRC spokesperson said.
The maximum depth of the tunnel is 19 meters below the Earth's surface of a park on the Ferozgandhi Marg near Residence Complex B2.
