Six persons were today sentenced to double life imprisonment by a court in neighbouring Tirupur on the charge of murdering a 50-year-old woman in 2012.

Additional District Court Judge A Mohamed Jiyabudeen awarded double life sentence to the six persons and also slapped a fine of Rs 2,000 on each of them.

The Judge ordered that the sentences would run concurrently.

As the prime accused in the case is a juvenile, his trial is being held separately in a Juvenile Justice Board (JJB).

According to prosecution, the seven-member gang had gained entry into the house of a retired police officer Palanisamy on the outskrits of Tirupur and murdered his wife Thangam, who was alone then, using lethal weapons before looting gold ornaments, on August 1, 2012.
