Press Trust of India Guwahati
Eminent educationist of Assam Srinath Baruah today urged the media in the state to use accurate Assamese words and correct sentences in items and programmes as use of incorrect words might confuse the audience/readers.

Interacting with scribes at Guwahati Press Club, Baruah emphasised on maintaining the beauty of Assamese language.

Attending the first 'Prangon, the EMFA's courtyard' program organized by Electronic Media Forum Assam, the former vice-chancellor of Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University said many TV news channels have using wrong kind of news for its 'Breaking' or 'Big Breaking' category.

The repeated use of "unhealthy visuals" by some of the news channels was also pointed out by him.

He said some news channels give more emphasise to entertaining than educating the viewers but appreciated the role played by Assam based news channels at the time of crises.

In this context he emphasised self regulation by the news channels and hoped that the audio visual media would engage itself more in investigative journalism.

He also advocated more space to various northeast related issues in the Guwahati-based news channels and suggested that they have at least one English news bulletin daily to cater to the need of non-Assamese viewers.
