Egypt's apex court today ruled as unconstitutional the election of Islamist-dominated upper house of Parliament and the Constituent Assembly that was tasked with drafting the country's first post-revolution Constitution.
The Supreme Constitutional Court also ruled that the Shura Council would not be dissolved until a new parliament is elected.
As a result of the ruling, the Shura Council will be dissolved after a new House of Representatives or the lower house of parliament is elected, Ahram Online reported.

The Shura Council has assumed full legislative powers until the election of a new House of Representatives according to the new constitution.
Both the upper and lower houses were elected under the same electoral law, prompting the dissolution of parliament.
The court also ruled that the emergency law, that gives many powers to President Mohamed Mursi, is not constitutional as well, state-run MENA news agency said.
