Eight IAS and IPS officers are working at the Centre beyond their authorised tenure of seven years, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said today.
The maximum combined tenure of central deputation is seven years at a stretch.
In a written reply to Lok Sabha, the Union minister said IPS officers--Binod Kumar Singh, Officer on Special Duty to Home Minister Rajnath Singh, and Sanjiv Kumar Singh, Inspector general NIA, are working on extended tenure.
While Binod belongs to Uttar Pradesh cadre, Sanjiv is from Madhya Pradesh cadre, he said.
N C Asthana, Abhin Dinesh Modak and Ravi Kant are the other IPS officers working beyond the extension period. Those in Indian Administrative Service (IAS) are--Sanjeevane Kutty, Preeti Sudan and Abhishek Singh, Singh said.
In all these cases, extension has been granted either on administrative ground or as per extant guidelines, he said.
In case of Ravi Kant, the extension has been given "as per directions of Supreme Court". He is probing the alleged irregularities in coal block allocations, the minister added.
