An FIR will be lodged against eight candidates after a probe into irregularities in recruitment test by state power corporation found prima facie evidence of paper being leaked to kin of employees, uploaded on a site and examinees prompted via SMS during test, officials today said.
Punjab State Power Corporation Limited Chairman-cum- Managing Director K D Chaudhary gave his nod for registration of criminal case against eight candidates following the inquiry conducted by Powercom DGP Sanjiv Gupta and later by DIG, Cyber crime, Vijay Partap Singh.
PSPCL's HRD chief engineer Suresh Kumar said FIR was being registered by the cyber wing of Punjab police for alleged irregularities in recruitment exam of Assistant Engineers (OT Electrical) and Junior Engineers (Electricals) in July last year.
Gupta had found that a majority of the top 30 successful candidates were kin of PSPCL employees.
The inquiry report in the alleged leak of question papers stated that DIG Cyber Crime of Punjab police Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh found there was prima facie sufficient evidence to proceed further in the case.
After analysis of call details of several suspects, it has been established there were many candidates who received SMS from a particular number during the course of the examination on July 15, 2012 in the evening session, the report said.
All the candidates were sent eight SMS during this time, it said.
The Punjab Police inquiry has established that the question paper of Assistant Engineers (Electrical) had been uploaded on a social networking site.
However, to ascertain further details about who did it and how, detailed investigation is required, the report said.
On the basis of the investigations conducted so far, it can be established that many candidates remained in touch with outsiders on mobile phones through SMS/MMS from the exam hall, the report said.
The inquiry report allegedly indicted eight candidates � Gurpreet Singh, Aman Preet Singh, Maninder Singh, Jagmeet Singh, Sachin Deep Singh Kahlon, Satguru Singh, Gurpreet Mann and Jaspinder Pal Singh.
Of the 14,381 candidates who appeared for the examinations on July 14 and July 15, 2012, as many as 385 had qualified as AEs and 330 as JEs.
