Encephalitis claims seven more lives; toll 185

Seven more persons have died from encephalitis in the past two days, taking the death toll due to the disease in this region to 185 this year, official sources said here today.

Of the seven victims, three succumbed yesterday while four died on Thursday at BRD Medical College here, the sources in the Additional Director (Health) office said.

The deceased hailed from different districts of eastern UP, they said.

They said 22 fresh encephalitis patients have been admitted to BRD Medical College in the last two days.

As many as 135 encephalitis patients are undergoing treatment at hospital, sources said.
 

The disease is caused by mosquito bite and contaminated water.
