ACB today registered a case under Prevention of Corruption Act against three persons, including two employees of Excise department, for allegedly accepting bribe of Rs 15,000 for returning official favour.

The trio include a sub-inspector attached to the flying squad of the department, Balasaheb Patil and a peon identified as Madhukar Rathod, besides a private person.

ACB DYSP (Thane unit) Mamta D'souza said the accused had allegedly demanded bribe from a tour & travel operator whose vehicle had been seized in connection with some offence.

Initially, a demand of Rs 1 lakh was made by Patil but the amount was subsequently brought down to Rs 40,000 and the complainant paid the first instalment of Rs 15,000 to Rathod.

Later, Patil and Rathod made a demand of Rs 28,000 from the complainant through the private person between November 11, 2014 and December 22, 2014, following which he approached ACB, D'Souza said.

A case under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 was registered against the trio. However, no arrests are made yet.
