A man today allegedly killed his nine-year-old son by stabbing him on his chest with a sharp-edged weapon and tried to commit suicide by cutting his own wrist in Vapi town of Gujarat's Valsad district, police said.
"Chandresh Maurya, aged about 30, residing at Shri Harikrupa Society in Vapi town of Valsad district, killed his nine-year-old son by stabbing him with a sharp-edged weapon on his chest," Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sweta Shrimali of Vapi town said here.
Later, Maurya tried to commit suicide by cutting his own wrist, she said, adding after Maurya locked himself and his son, Om, in their house.
After Maurya's wife called neighbours for help, they broke open the door, only to find Maurya and his son lying in a pool of blood. The boy died on the spot, while Maurya was lying unconscious, she said.
Maurya's neighbours had called the 108 emergency police service and rushed him to a nearest government hospital where his condition is reported to be stable, Shrimali said.
Reasons behind the killing is not known yet and the police is investigating the case, she said.
