Aiming to encourage women, who aspire to become film directors in the male-dominated field, a six-day women's International Film Festival would be held here from May 20, organisers said today.

"The Chennai Women's International Film Festival (CWIFF) would promote films made by women. When it comes to film industry, it has been a far cry for women to showcase their creative talent," Ravichandran, the head of Eventaa SouthIndia Productions said.

Awards would be presented to the films under various categories based on selection by a jury comprising film critic Madhan, theatre artist "Crazy" Mohan, film directors J S Nandini, Priya and Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, he told reporters here.

The categories include short film, ad film, documentary and feature film, he said.

The CWIFF Award was also unveiled by Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi on the occasion.

The last date for receiving the entries is April 15, and those films made by students would be given special concession and would be screened separately in a later date, he said.
