Five arrested for extortion

Five persons were today arrested for allegedly extorting about Rs 10 lakh from roadside hotels and other establishments while posing as news reporters and government officers in Udaipur.

The accused, including two woman, had been blackmailing and extorting money from different people for some time and the gang was busted today, police said.

The accused are Sarita, Satish, Mandeep, Heeralal and Mahaveer have confessed to extorting about Rs 10 lakh from different people, they said.

They would threaten the owners of roadside hotels that they would show on TV that the hotel staff was stealing diesel from trucks if they did not pay the money.
 

Fake identity cards of news channels, video cameras have been seized from their possession and they are being interrogated.
