Five persons sustain burns in lightning

Five persons sustained burns after lightning struck them while they were standing under a tree as shelter from pouring rain near Dolphin's Nose, a tourist spot in Coonoor, some 20 Kms from here, today.

The five- Raghu, Sanjay, Ramkumar, Saravanan and Mahesh, who have put up petty shops in the vicinity, ran under the tree, to protect from the rains, accompanied buy thunder and lightning, police said.

However, a lightning suddenly struck on them, resulting in burn injuries on the body and snapping of a tree branch, they said.

Some workers, with the help of tourists, brought and admitted them to Coonoor government hospital, where they are being treated, they said.
 

Sanjay, who is in an unconscious state, with burns on neck, hands and back, is being shifted to Coimbatore Hospital, police said.
