FM voices concern over disruption of Parliamentary proceedings

He said while everybody had the right to freedom of expression, it should not impinge upon the right of others to speak.

Delivering a lecture at the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Mohan Lal Sukhadia University here, he voiced concern over loss of time in Parliament due to "unnecessary chaos" created by some members.

Mukherjee lauded the people for showing "strong willpower" which, he said, has strengthened democracy.

"Strong willpower, fearlessness and determination of the people of India has made it a strong nation.

"The desire to progress in the face of all odds is also a great cause of India's strength," he said.

 

"The people of Jammu and Kashmir participated in election in spite of terrorism in the state," he said.

Reminiscing his youth, the leader talked about the time when West Bengal was hit by its worst famine and the shortage of food led people to starve.

Today, India is the biggest exporter of foodgrains and the credit goes to the hard work and dedication of farmers, he said. MORE
