A forest guard was today trampled to death by an elephant in Cherampadi Forest range, some 80 km from here.

45-year-old Sureshkumar was among some forest department officials engaged to drive away a herd of elephants straying into human habitats.

An elephant suddenly appeared from a bush, attacked and trampled Sureshkumar, killing him on the spot, department officials said.

The body has been taken to Gudalur Government Hospital for post-mortem, they said.
