A fresh batch of 277 pilgrims left Jammu for the cave shrine of Amarnath in South Kashmir Himalayas as the yatra resumed from the winter capital after it was suspended for a day due to inclement weather.

"Amarnath yatra has begun today from Jammu after a day-long suspension. The fresh batch has left Jammu for Amarnath," a police officer said.

The pilgrimage was suspended from Jammu following inclement weather in the Jammu region yesterday.

The batch of 277 pilgrims comprising 229 men and 48 women left in 13 vehicles from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu for Pahalgam and Baltal today, the officer said.

The yatra will conclude on August 18 when the holy mace would reach the cave shrine.
