Smallest batch of 311 pilgrims leave for Amarnath

The smallest batch of this year's Amarnath Yatra, comprising 311 pilgrims, today left for twin base camps of Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas amid tight security.

A total of 311 pilgrims, including 203 men, 73 women and 35 'sadhus', left in a cavalcade of nine vehicles from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu for the twin base camps of Pahalgam and Baltal in Kashmir, a police officer said.

This was the smallest batch of pilgrims to leave for the Amarnath cave shrine ever since the Yatra started on July 2, the officer said.

Yesterday, 1,528 pilgrims paid obeisance at the holy cave. Till date 2,11,707 pilgrims have paid obeisance at the Amarnath cave shrine.
