Girl succumbs to burn injuries

Four days after she fell into a hot vessel of dal, a class IX girl student of a government run High School in Odisha's Koraput district succumbed to the burn injury.

Basanti Barik of Baligaon girls high school run by SC and ST Development department, grievously injured after she fell into the container on Sunday, died at the district headquarter hospital last evening, said S T Rao, District Welfare Officer, Koraput.

The incident took place when the students of the residential school were waiting for mid-day meal, he said adding the girl was first taken to local dispensary and then Jeypore public health centre before being shifted to the district headquarter hospital at Koraput.
 

Her father Chandra Barik, Ex-MP Pradip Majhi, Nabarangopur Congress President Narayan Patra and other political parities demanded the arrest of the headmaster and a compensation of Rs five lakh to the family of deceased.

Rao said a amount of Rs one lakh was granted as ex-gratia to the family of the girl.
