In the run-up to the April 24 Lok Sabha polls, over 1,800 gold-plated coins worth Rs two lakh besides Rs 3.90 lakh cash were today seized in separate incidents near here.
Police said as part of the drive to check unaccounted money in view of the upcoming polls, they stopped a car proceeding to Tiruchirapalli at Singanallur in the city and found 1,890 gold-plated copper coins with pictures of Hindu gods embossed on them.
The person in the car is being questioned for the source of supply, police said.
In a separate incident, Rs 3.90 lakh cash was seized from a car at a checkpost in Udumalpet in Tirupur district, they said.
