With large quantities of opium allegedly smuggled from West Bengal seized in the last two months, Government Railway Police will intensify checking on trains from the state.
"68 kg of opium has been seized from passengers of the train in the last two months. Hence, it has been decided to intensify the checking of Howrah Express in days to come," GRP SP Lalit Maheshwari said today.
Railway police officials said local smugglers are now focusing on opium producing areas in West Bengal. Therefore, cases of smuggling in Howrah-Jaisalmer train has risen in the past few months.
