The Orissa High Court today slapped a stay on the collection of enhanced school fees by the local Stewart School here after admitting a batch of writ petitions filed by some parents.

A single-judge bench of Justice Kumari Sanju Panda, dismissing the contentions of the school authorities, asked them to refrain from collecting increased school fees from the students till the writ petitions were disposed.

The High Court also asked the school authorities to refrain from taking any coercive action against the students who had not paid the enhanced dues yet.

It was alleged that the admit cards for the forthcoming Class X and Class XII examinations were not being issued to students who had not paid the enhanced dues.

The High Court categorically asked the school authorities not to harass the students appearing in the school leaving examinations next month.
