Heat claims two lives

CRPF head constable Jagdish Ram suffered a heat stroke while participating in a combing operation against Maoists in Bihar's Munger district.

He was taken to a Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Kharagpur where he died during treatment. Ram was a native of Punjab.

The second person to die was a candidate for the post of constable in Kolkata who collapsed in intense heat during physical tests five days ago.

Suresh Bhujal (25) who collapsed while running 1600 metre in a stipulated time at the Race Course grounds at midday when the mercury was hovering between 38 degree celsius and 40 degree Celsius was rushed to the state-run SSKM hospital where he battled for life in the ICCU for five days before finally succumbing today.

 

Abhisek Pal (24), another aspirant for the same post, had died on Thursday after collapsing during the run.

The Kolkata Police suspended the recruitment tests till June 19 following Pal's death.

The capital Delhi also experienced a hot day with the maximum temperature at 41.4 degrees celsius, two notches above normal and the minimum recorded at 30.0 degrees celsius.

Heat wave conditions prevailed in parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh with temperatures remaining markedly normal in the region. MORE
