Heroin worth over Rs 18 crore seized

Heroin worth Rs 18.75 crore was seized by BSF today at Pulmoran outpost near the India-Pakistan Border.

BSF personnel seized 7 packets of heroin weighing approximately 3.75 kilograms, BSF DIG RS Kataria said.

The BSF Kissan Guard party, deployed ahead of the fence in the area of Pulmoran, found the heroin hidden under straw in a field, he said.

No arrests have been made in this regard, he added.

Meanwhile, Punjab Police in Amritsar today claimed to have arrested a man and recovered 5 kg of heroin from his possession.

The accused was identified as Gurnam Singh.

Confirming the seizure here today, Inspector General of Police M F Farooqui said the accused is a resident of Mahwa village near the Indo-Pak border.
 

He was arrested on the basis of a tip-off that five kg of heroin drug was being smuggled to India from Pakistan, from the outskirts of the city.

Further investigation is underway.
