The Allahabad High Court today stayed the ongoing repair work of Chhota Imambara in the Old City area here and asked Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to assess the damage to the monument and carry out proper repair work.
A division bench of justices Shabihul Hasnain and Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya here also stayed use of cement in the repairing work.
The bench passed the order on an application, moved in a pending PIL, for restraining the use of cement in the monuments' repairing.

"The court directed the Superintending Archaeologist of the ASI to visit the site for assessing damage of the monument and carry out proper repair work," the petitioner said.
According to petitioner, Mohd Haider, the repair work was being done by the Husainabad Trust using cement, while as per conservation policy of protected monuments, 2014, this work could only be done by the ASI.
