Home guard jawan dies in accident

A 40-year-old home guard jawan was crushed to death under the wheels of a bus on Garamnalla road under Bistupur police station here today, the police said.

The victim, Tarni Singh Jyotishi, who was posted at Narwa near here. He was a resident of Potka village and came here to inquire about his salary, senior police officers said.

He was going on his bicycle when a bus hit him from behind, they said.

A large number of local residents assembled on the spot and put up road blockade for hours demanding adequate compensation to the victim's family and arrest of the driver of the killer vehicle.
 

The blockade was withdrawn after senior officers pursued the protesters with an assurance to look into their demands.
