The people in Western Ghats region are "anxious" over the decision of Environment Ministry to accept in principle and operationalise the "anti-farmer' recommendations in a controversial report on the mountain chain, a farmers' body said here today.
The All India Kisan Sabha claimed that the steps taken by the Environment Ministry to notify 4,156 villages in six states from Gujarat to Tamil Nadu as Ecologically Sensitive Area without addressing the concern of farmers and the public have led to discontent.
It asked the Government to stop the implementation of the recommendations, form an expert panel to examine the reports on Western Ghats and ensure balance in protection of environment and livelihood of the people in Western Ghats
".... People are participating in struggles and protest actions" against the Centre's decision to implement the recommendations of the report of the High Level Working Group (HLWG) prepared by a 10-member panel headed by K Kasturirangan, the farmers' body affiliated to the CPI(M) said.
