India deports Iraqi national seeking asylum

An Iraqi national seeking asylum has been deported by authorities here as he was on a list of persons not permitted to enter India.

Hussani Rasool was refused asylum in 2003. However, today he tried to enter the country at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here on the basis of a Swedish passport, official sources said.

The immigration officials did not allow him to enter as he was on a list of banned persons, they said.

Rasool, who had come to India via an European country, was deported back, the sources said.
