The Indian Army has announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each for about 7,000 ex-servicemen residing in Nepal who were affected by last year's devastating earthquake.
Lt Gen Rakesh Sharma, Adjutant General Indian Army, who recently visited pension paying camps in Pokhara and Dharan in western and eastern Nepal, announced financial assistance to those ex-servicemen of Indian Army who were affected by the quake.
The Indian Army announced a grant of Rs 2 lakh each to the 6,832 affected ex-servicemen whose applications had come to the Defence Wing at the Indian Embassy here, according to a statement.
A total amount of Rs 13.66 crore cash has been allocated as a small token of assistance to the victims of last year's earthquake from the Indian Army, the Embassy said today.
There are some 126,000 Nepal Domiciled Gorkha pensioners residing in Nepal, who are drawing some 2,500 crore (around USD 400 million) pension annually from the Indian Army.
