Indian jailed for attacking woman in Bahrain

An Indian man has been sentenced to five years in jail by a Bahrain court for attacking a compatriot with hammer and snatching away her gold chain.

The 32-year-old Indian victim let the man into her apartment believing him to be a TV company employee.

Gulf Daily News reported he hit her on the head with a hammer twice before fleeing with the gold chain worth USD 928.

The Indian man pleaded not guilty in the High Criminal Court, despite confessing to prosecutors during questioning.

The court yesterday convicted the man of theft and assault. It also ordered his deportation after completing the jail term.
