An inspector of school in Meghalaya was arrested today after he was caught red handed accepting from a school teacher in state's West Khasi Hills district, police said.

Sub-Divisional School Education Inspector Lufter Rahman was arrested today by the special CID team of the police when he took a bribe of Rs 30,000 from one of the aggrieved teachers, state's Police chief Peter J P Hanaman told PTI.

Acting on a tip off that Rahman had demanded money for small works of the teachers, CID sleuths laid a trap and arrested him from his office chamber at Mairang, Hanaman said.

The aggrieved teacher, D M Lyngdoh Mawnai, lodged a complaint with the police after he demanded Rs 30,000 for a transfer order that the former had applied for earlier this year.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused officer was a repeated offender who demanded money for issuing administrative orders for the teachers, police said.
