The Jharkhand Assembly today passed the third supplementary budget of about Rs 1,841 crore by voice vote.

The supplementary budget, which was tabled on February 16, earmarks funds for departments like Education, Urban Development and Housing, Information and e-governance, Tourism, Welfare, Rural Development and Disaster Management.

Replying to the cut motion on the Supplementary Budget, state Parliamentary Affairs minister Saryu Roy said bringing a supplementary budget was within the Constitutional norms.

Dismissing Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) MLA Prakash Ram, who brought the cut motion questioning three supplementary budgets in a year and which disapproved, Roy said all the previous governments, including some of those in the opposition now, had tabled supplementary budgets three times every year.

Detailing about funds for different departments, Roy said the maximum Rs 457 crore was earmarked for Disaster Management Department, including for relief of farmers.

"Yesterday I said the state's economic condition was strong. Even the Gross State Domestic Product has increased to 8.83 per cent in 2015-16 and per capita income has increased and is 7.46 per cent," Roy said.
