Jeweller gunned down, looted

In a daring heist a jeweller was gunned down and gold ornaments and cash of about Rs 10 lakh was looted from him from Midnapore town's main market place, police said today.

Swapan Pandab(42) was shot dead by miscreants at Patna Bazar area late last night when he was on his way back home in the first of its kind incident in the town, the police said.

Some gold ornaments which he was carrying back home and about Rs 10 lakh cash were looted from him, his family told the police.

The body was found this morning and the police informed.
 

West Midnapore superintendent of police Bharati Ghosh confirming the killing said four persons have been detained in connection with it.
