The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research here would introduce liver transplant facility in March next, JIPMER Director Dr S C Parija today said.
Normally such facility would be available in private and corporate hospitals at a cost of not less than Rs 25 lakh, he said.
"We want to take it as a challenge to cater for the requirements of the poor and have-nots by integrating latest technologies in our system of medical care," he said.

He was inaugurating a continuing medical education programme on 'Obesity and Metabolic Surgery' organised by the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology in JIPMER.
Renal transplant surgery is already being done in JIPMER and 13 bariatric surgeries had been performed through the hospital's 'obesity and metabolic surgery' programme.
Services for the poor were a priority and occupied the top slot in the scheme of things in JIPMER, he added.
