JK's Saddal village landslide death toll now 36

Nine months after Saddal village of Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir got buried under a massive landslide after heavy rains, district authorities today stumbled on a decomposed body of a youth taking the total number of deaths to 36.

"The district administration Udhampur recovered one more body today at Saddal-Panjar hamlet, where heavy landslide occurred last year after incessant rains and flash floods," a district officer said.

The body was of a 19-year-old male, Daleep Singh, he said adding that it has been handed over to his kin for last rites.

40 people were buried alive after entire Saddal village got vanished under landslides on September 6 last year following heavy downpour that led to worst ever floods in the state in the last 60 years.
