A day after a sub-inspector was killed in an encounter with criminals in Uttar Pradesh, Union minister Mahesh Sharma today said such incidents pose a question mark over the administration in the state and demanded that the Akhilesh Yadav government bring the culprits to book "immediately".
"Law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh is deteriorating day by day...Such incidents pose a question mark over the administration in the state," Sharma, who represents UP's Gautam Budh Nagar Parliamentary constituency, told reporters.
"I urge the government to take immediate action to bring the criminals to book and improve the law and order situation in the state," he said.

Sharma said the criminals in the state have "gained so much courage" that they are no longer afraid of police.
Citing another incident of negligence, he said a noted criminal, identified as Ankit, also managed to trick policemen and escaped from their custody recently.
