LF urges WB govt for immediate steps to revive jute sector

The Opposition Left Front in West Bengal today urged the state government to take some concrete steps to revive the jute sector and protect the jute farmers by ensuring minimum procurement price of jute at Rs 4,000 per quintal.

A delegation of the Left Front Legislature Party led by CPI(M)'s Anisur Rahaman today met Agriculture Minister Purnendu Bose and submitted a five-point demands to him in this regard.

Apart from minimum procurement price of jute at Rs 4,000 per quintal, the demands included mandatory procurement through Jute Corporation of India (JCI) and opening of 20 closed jute mills in the state, Rahaman said.
 

Besides, the delegation urged the state government to take up with Centre for a change in its jute policy to enhance use of jute commercially and to reduce fertiliser price.

The minister assured the delegation to look into the matter, Rahaman said.
