Live mortar shell recovered in Samba

An old rusted mortar shell was recovered in a field near the International Border (IB) in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said here today.

One Banarsi Sharma noticed some unusual metal object in his field in Regal village near a border out post (BoP) in the Samba district and informed the police.

A team of police and the Border Security Force (BSF) reached the spot and started efforts to defuse the shell, a police spokesperson said.

A case has been registered at the police station Samba, he added.
