Locals clash with security forces in Srinagar

A clash broke out between a group of people and security forces over a youth's arrest at Maisuma at the heart of the city here today, police said.

According to a police official, a group of around 25-30 people pelted stones at Maisuma police station protesting the arrest of Ashiq Kala, a resident of the area and also accused of pelting stones at security forces.

Police resorted to mild lathicharge and fired a few tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters, said the official, adding that no one was injured in the incident.
