Lt Governor, CM extend Pongal greetings

: Lt Governor of Puducherry Lt General (retd) A K Singh and Chief Minister N Rangasamy today extended their greetings to the people on the occassion of the Pongal festival.

In his message Singh said Pongal the festival marks an important occasion in the lives of Tamil people and the birth of the Tamil month 'Thai' harbingers prosperity.

"The gaiety and fervour associated with Pongal reflects our rich cultural tradition and is also an occasion to rejoice with family members and working class to promote the spirit of peace and benevolence among people," he said.

Rangasamy said Pongal marks the dawn of good thoughts and joy with promotion of virtues and high thoughts.Occurrence of Bhogi on the eve of Pongal denotes eradication of evil thoughts and nurturing of good and new ones for betterment of society, he said.
 

Ministers, leaders and functionaries of various political parties also greeted the people.
