A forest department team was attacked by a group of forest mafias when it had gone to check the illegal felling of trees in Sohelwa region here, police said today.
Additional Superintendent of Police, Lal Sahab Yadav said that the forest department team was attacked by 14 forest mafias yesterday evening when it had gone to the forest in Bhambhar area to check illegal cutting of trees after receiving a tip off.
However none of the forest officials were injured in the attack, he said.

Yadav said that on the basis of a complaint filed by Forest Inspector Premnath Chaudhary, a case has been lodged against all fourteen culprits.
Two of them have been identified as Arun Dev Pathak and Ram Naresh and investigations are on to identify the rest, he said.
