Key Result Areas (KRAs), a concept popular in the corporate sector, will soon be applicable for Maharashtra's bureaucrats with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis initiating the measure to improve efficiency and output of the state administration.

"The government knows what are the key result areas, as per its vision. To implement that is the responsibility of officers," Fadnavis said.

The KRAs will be linked to increments and promotions.

G D Kulthe, chief advisor of Maharashtra State Gazetted Officer Federation, welcomed the move.

"Whatever changes the government wants to make are welcome. However, the government should also ensure that the staff get all basic amenities and infrastructure to discharge their duty efficiently," he said.

The Mantralaya building, renovated after a major fire broke out in June 2012, looks like a corporate office, but the work has not been done properly, Kulthe said.

"If there is a fire once again, hundreds will be trapped," he added.
