Man dies in police custody in Andhra Pradesh

A 27-year-old man died allegedly after suffering seizures during interrogation in a case of property related crime in Prakasam district.

B Purnachandra Rao, a native of Ponnur town in Guntur district, was brought to Karamchedu police station yesterday in connection with a property related offence, Chirala Circle Inspector (CI) N Satyanarayana said.

During interrogation, Rao suffered seizures, following which he was admitted to a hospital where he died, the CI said.

Inquest was conducted by Ongole Revenue Divisional Officer K Srinivasa Rao, he said.

A case has been registered at Karamchedu police station under section 176 (inquiry by magistrate into cause of death) of the CrPC and investigation is on, Satyanarayana said.
