Man held for murder, robbery

An alleged robber, wanted in a case of murder and loot, has been arrested by the Crime Branch here, police said today.

Sharif alias Sharukh (24), a resident of Ghaziabad, was arrested yesterday on a tip-off from Gamri Village in Bhajanpura in Northeast Delhi, they said.

He was wanted for alleged involvement in the murder of a resident of Shastri Nagar here who was found dead in his ransacked house on August 11.

Police said Sharif has confessed to have executed the murder with five other persons-- Irshad, Javed, Wasim, Naseem and Faisal.

"The accused entered the house in Shastri Nagar for committing burglary, but the owner of the house woke up. They then stabbed him to death and ransacked the house, decamping with jewellery," said ACP (Crime) Ashok Chand.
 

According to the police, Sharif has confessed to have committed burglaries along with his accomplices in Jamia Nagar and Tilak Nagar areas of the national capital.

They said with Sharif's arrest, seven cases of house burglaries in the two areas have been worked out.

Police stations concerned have been informed about his arrest, Chand said.

During interrogation, Sharif said he and his gang used to conduct recce in the day time for selecting targets and execute the crime after consuming drugs.

They used to carry firearms, knives and other house-breaking equipment for committing crimes.
