The CBI today arrested a person from the city, who had been absconding for seven years in a Rs 7 crore cheating case.

"Hitesh Bhambhrolioya, a proclaimed offender who had been in hiding for the past seven years, was arrested here today," a CBI official said.

In April 2007, the investigative agency had registered a case based on the complaints that the accused had obtained duty rebate claims from Central Excise in Gujarat between 2004 and 2005 through forged documents.

The CBI had filed a charge-sheet in December 2009 against Bhambhrolioya and others. However, he had been on the run ever since and had stopped appearing before the court, following which he had been declared as proclaimed offender.

A local court later remanded him in judicial custody.
