Man mauled to death by bear in J&K

A 38-year-old man was mauled to death by a black bear in Ganderbal district of central Kashmir today, taking the number of persons killed by wild animals in the past three months in the Valley to eight.

Zubair Ahmad Khatana, a resident of Kalakote in Rajouri district, was attacked by the bear at Nala Sarbal in Ganderbal, police said, adding that the man died on the spot.

This was the second attack by wild animals in the past two days and eighth in the past three months.

Basir Bashir Lone (10), a resident of Hayan village, was killed by a leopard while he was playing at Karihama village of Handwara, 80 kms from here, yesterday.
