A young man was shot dead by four unidentified attackers at Chandikhole in Odisha's Jajpur district tonight, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Deepak Kumar Nayak (26) of Nuasunguda village of the district.

The incident took place while the deceased was chatting with some of his friends after attending a party function near Biju Janata Dal (BJD) office.

According to police, four unidentified persons came in two motorcycles and fired at Nayak from close range at around 8.00 pm.

Local people chased the assailants who managed to catch two of them along with their bike. Later, they were handed over the local police.

While it was not immediately clear whether the deceased had links with the ruling BJD, old rivalry stated to be the reason behind the crime, police said adding the arrested duo is yet to be identified.
