Moderate rains in Gangetic West Bengal

Gangetic West Bengal received moderate rains today, while reduced precipitation in sub-Himalayan West Bengal, which was being lashed by monsoon downpours for the past few days, gave some relief to the people.

There is, however, forecast of heavy rains over the next five days in the sub-Himalayan areas.

The MeT department here said Jalpaiguri recorded rainfall of 70 mm during the day, which is much lower than yesterday's 103 mm, while Coochbehar and the hill town of Darjeeling received only 4.2 mm and 5.1 mm rainfall respectively.

Balurghat recorded the day's highest temperature in the state at 34.6 degrees Celsius followed by Contai where it was 34.5 degrees Celsius. Asansol and Midnapore recorded 33.5 degrees Celsius and 30.1 degrees Celsius respectively.
 

In Kolkata, the day temperature was 32.5 degrees Celsius, which is slightly less than that of yesterday following moderate rainfall in some parts of Gangetic West Bengal.

The MeT department has forecast heavy rains in Darjeeling, Coochbehar and Jalpaiguri districts in sub-Himalayan areas of the state in the next five days, while the forecast for Gangetic West Bengal is generally cloudy sky with a few spells of rain or thundershower in the next 48 hours.
