Monsoon enters parts of Punjab

Pre-monsoon showers today lashed areas of north-west region, including Haryana, with monsoon entering some parts of Punjab, leading to fall in mercury in the twin states.

Light to moderate rains lashed many parts of Punjab and Haryana today bringing a drop in day temperatures considerably, the MeT office here said.

Meanwhile, the humidity levels rose sharply in Punjab and Haryana as at several places it was upto 100 per cent, the MeT said.

Chandigarh MeT Director Surinder Pal said "monsoon had entered some parts of Punjab whereas pre-monsoon marked its arrival in some areas of Haryana."

"In the next 48 hours the monsoon will further advance in Punjab and Haryana as both the states are likely to receive rainfall," he said.
 

Meanwhile, rainfall in parts of Punjab and Haryana "improved" the power situation in the region, officials said.

Agriculture experts describe these showers as highly beneficial for the on-going paddy transplantation going on in the two agrarian states.

Karnal received 51.2 mm ranifall followed by 36.6 mm in Ambala.

Among other places, Patiala got 16.2 mm of rainfall, Chandigarh 9.6 mm, Ludhiana 3 mm and Amritsar 0.8 mm, the MeT office said.

Rain waters inundated several low lying areas in Punjab and Haryana, reports here said.
