AC/DC drummer Paul Rudd got some relief when the charges of murder-for-hire were dropped against him.

The drummer, 60, was arrested in New Zealand for allegedly hiring hitmen to kill two men, possessing methamphetamine, cannabis and threatening to kill.

The Crown Solicitor of Tauranga, New Zealand, where he was arrested ruled to withdraw the charge of murder-for-hire due to "insufficient evidence", reported People magazine.

"The charge for alleging an attempt to procure murder should have never been laid. The charge is now withdrawn. Mr Rudd has suffered unnecessary and extremely damaging publicity as a result of widespread and sensational reporting of a very serious allegation, which on any basis was never justified," his lawyer Paul Mabey QC said in a statement.

The musician, who was released on bail, still faces three other charges and is scheduled to appear in court on November 24.
